Nailing down Lameness
With lameness affecting up to 25% of dairy herds, it’s a huge drain on resources taking time, energy and skill to treat, let alone impact on a farms productivity. Across the country, we know that lameness is a huge contributor to general animal health problems and loss productivity. Throughout VetNZ we prioritise the capability of our teams with regular training (CPD) and the importance of sharing our growing know with our clients. Over 2020 we have been fortunate to partner with Dr Neil Chesterton, renown expert in lameness risk factors and behavioural strategies to reduce incidence. Across 7 locations we have spent time with farmers, and learnt from Neil the value of understanding risk factors and common sense animal husbandry to reduce those areas of risk. Our vets also got a refresher, with two day training sessions acknowledging the most up to date insights into lameness prevention and management.
